Three pupils from Charterhouse Preparatory School have collected more than 30 000 chocolate Easter eggs for 100 charities.
Kati Phaleng, Neil van Heerden and Caitlyn Scholtz were tasked with collecting Easter eggs from the mini council. The mini council is an organisation in Johannesburg where two pupils in Grade 7 from each school is elected to join the committee.

The campaign to collect Easter eggs began toward the end of February, and pupils at the school brought as many chocolate Easter eggs as possible.
This year, however, the drive ‘blew up’, as the pupils admitted. The school pupils collected close to 14 000 marshmallow eggs and that number was met by a surprising donor.
“I asked OUTsurance to help me collect Easter eggs. We collected 15 580 eggs with them,” said Grade 5 pupil Caitlyn.
All the pupils at Charterhouse largely collected eggs for a good cause and for charities Johannesburg.

“The chairperson of the committee decides from a list which charities we will help out. We will be distributing the eggs to the charities on 25 March,” added Phaleng and Van Heerden.
Schools in different areas of Gauteng collected Easter eggs for charity and, all-in-all, more than 40 primary schools opened their hearts and gave back.
On 20 March, OUTsurance, with the help of all the pupils at Charterhouse, helped handover of all the eggs collected. The spirit of giving doesn’t end there, of course. The pupils will soon gear up for a blanket drive, where 67 blankets will be collected as part of Nelson Mandela Day. They also collected money and sponsored two puppies for the SA Guide Dogs’ Association.
“This is such a heart-warming experience. To quote Little people can do great things, we really should not under-estimate the power of a child,” said [school https://www.charterhouse.co.za/] principal Natalie Thwaits.
