Laerskool Roodekrans’ Sonstraaltjie Opvoedkundige Sentrum held their annual athletics this weekend. The events on display included races and obstacle courses.
The main event was the wheelbarrow race where children and their parents dress up according to a theme and decorate their wheelbarrows.
This year’s theme was J, the letter taken from Sonstraaltjie.
Five classes participate and their ages range from 16 months to six years.
Mr South Africa Armand du Plessis made an appearance at the event and Little Miss South Africa Noelle du Plessis was one of the wheelbarrow adjudicators.
“It is always a festival atmosphere at this event and both parents and pupils had fun. Every family builds and decorates their wheelbarrow according to a theme. We also have a small march for the pupils,” said principal Benita Bothma.
