West Rand Music Festival back again

West Rand Music Festival

The West Rand Music Festival has been inundated with entry forms for this year’s competition. The festival is scheduled for the 4 to 9 May at the NG Kerk in Florida Park

The annual festival that started in 1991 has been expanded to include choirs, dance and drama.

From flutes to clarinets, to guitar and piano, any musical instrument is welcome at the festival.

Participants will range from beginners to university students. Adjudicators of the highest calibre will be part of the festival to ensure the competition is of premier standard.

Organiser Gordon Woods said he is looking forward to the festival this year.

“We are all looking forward to an exciting and vastly expanded festival this year. We are especially looking forward to brilliant productions from those already entered. The festival is growing from strength to strength and the standard is as usual of top quality,” he said.

The festival is working with the IDA Care foundation and Edu Music and Woods hopes music students will take advantage of the festival to practice their examination material.

“The festival will be in May, just before the schools and universities have their music examinations so those who would like to brush up on their performances and have professional adjudicators judge them before their exams should enter,” said Woods.

The venue for this year’s festival will be the NG Kerk in Florida Park.

“This venue is much more suited for the festival and has fantastic acoustics. No matter your instrument or genre or performing art, you are sure to have a fantastic time,” said Woods.
