Junior paddlers aim for provincials
Florida Lake Canoe Club junior paddlers excel in Germiston.
This weekend over 100 junior paddlers participated in sprint lanes at Germiston Lake race hosted by Victoria Lake Canoe Club.
The competition had Florida Lake Canoe Club members participating.
A marked improvement in the paddler’s performances throughout the day started with the 1000 metre followed by the 500 metre, and a short sharp confident race in the 200 metre race.
Junior paddlers participate in regular races throughout the year to earn points. This helps to identify to primary and high school, top club and individuals.
The race was also in preparation for the SA School interprovincial, interschool competition scheduled to take place at Roodeplaat from 30 April to 2 May.
Florida Lake Canoe Club members Matthew van der Merwe and Kamillah won in the U/12 age group races in male and female respectively. Ketso Mohapi, in her first season of sprint racing managed very well and finished all 3 races confidently.
