Crime incident foiled

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Vigilant security officer foils attempted crime to occur.

A vigilant security officer foiled plans of alleged criminals. According to Greg Pearce of Community Support Services on Wednesday 25 February just before midday, one of their officers, Andries Neethling, noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle on the corner of Koorsboom and Rankdoring avenues in Weltevreden Park.

The alleged three suspects were driving in a white Jetta 5 with registration TSM 330 GP. Neethling followed the vehicle, the suspects raced off and a chase ensued.

At the corner of Cockspur Road and Wildebraam Street the suspects stopped and one passenger got out and fired a shot at Neethling.

They went off down Wildebraam Street into Madeliefie Street. At the first corner of Madeliefie Street they stopped again and fired a further two shots at Neethling and drove off again.

The suspects were lost somewhere in the area but were later seen by a resident on John Vorster Road travelling at high speed toward Rock Cottage.

In Struben’s Valley and Little Falls SRT Security reported that there were several housebreakings on the same day where a white Jetta was involved. It is not yet clear if it is the same vehicle that was involved in the shootout.

Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs is still to comment on the matter.
