Honeydew Cluster makes 135 arrests over the weekend
HONEYDEW - Trapped toy gun rapists among 135 arrested over the weekend.
Two alleged toy gun rapists were among 135 suspects arrested in the Honeydew Cluster for various crimes since Friday.
According to Honeydew Cluster Spokesperson Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela, two men (20 and 23) threatened two women (24 and 26) with a firearm in Diepsloot during the early hours of Saturday morning. They forced victims to an open veld where they took turns raping them.
Reportedly the two parties later reached consensus that they would all spend the remainder of the night at a room owned by one of the victims.
On arrival, the suspects understood that no further intercourse would take place due to the presence of the victim’s children in the same room.
It is alleged that in the morning the women managed to retrieve the door key from one of the suspect’s pockets. They opened and locked the sleeping suspects inside the room.
“The police were alerted. They found the suspects still trapped in the room. A toy gun was also recovered,” said WO Mavimbela.
The two men will be charged with rape. The other suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from drunken driving, assault, fraud, sexual assault to attempted murder.
All the suspects arrested over the weekend are expected to appear in the Randburg and Roodepoort Magistrate’s Courts soon.
