Trinity House in Little Falls is boasting a triple threat team of pupils in sailing, hockey and gymnastics.
Grade 11 pupil Tanith de Reuck took part in the National Indoor Hockey Tournament in Cape Town, as a member of the Gauteng Gryphon Squad.
Todd Fischer is a sailing enthusiast and reigning national champ, after the National Youth Hobie in December 2014.

Beate Malan came in first as part of the South African team in the Zone 6 gymnastics competition in Namibia.
For Tanith de Reuck, hockey was almost an obvious choice because her mother is a hockey coach.

“We had to go through trials and we worked our way up. For instance, if you start off in the D team, you will work your way into the A team.”
Todd Fischer tells a similar story of starting his sport from an early age. He said his father was into sailing and sent Todd to sailing school at six years old. The Grade 10 started competing in the sport with his cousin and it wasn’t long before they realised their talent.
“We went to the provincials and we won and we went through to the Nationals – which we won again. We climbed onto a smaller boat and we competed in the world championships in Germany and came in second place.”
The youngest of the trio, Beate Malan got into gymnastics and an array of other sports, including ballet and horse riding. She represented the South African Gymnastics Federation (SAGF) in Namibia during the Zone 6 competition.
“South Africa was part of six other countries that competed there. We won all our competitions and I also won my individual competitions.”
Malan trains six days a week for four and a half hours. She said she loves the feeling of being able to do anything, which she gets from the sport. “Not a lot of people can do it, it is an interesting sport–very different.”
