Florida hit-and-run suspect arrested

Following a description of what is believed to be a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident in Albertina Sisulu Street a man was taken into custody.

The accident occurred at around 9.30 pm on Valentine’s Day (Saturday 14 February) near the corner of Albertina Sisulu Street and 4th Avenue, Florida. A person was hit by a vehicle and passed away on the scene.

According to On Florida Community Forum’s Caleb Finn witnesses gave a description of the vehicle to both the Metro Police (JMPD) and CPF members. “Later the CPF community patrollers received information on the whereabouts of a damaged vehicle that matched this description,” Finn said.

“At the given address the vehicle was found with clear signs of damage to the vehicle and its windscreen.”

Metro Police and the Florida Police were contacted and the suspect was apprehended.

“The matter remains under investigation by police to determine whether this was indeed the same vehicle,” Finn said.

“Well done to the CPF members who went the extra mile to locate it.”

Finn reminds the community that it is a crime not to stop when you have been involved in an accident.

“The only permissable reasons nto to stop are when you feel your life is in direct danger, in which case you should drive straight to the nearest police station and report it.”
