UPDATE: Police investigate Weltevreden Park murder-suicide

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Police investigate couple's murder-suicide case.

Honeydew Detectives are investigating a murder case and have also opened an inquest following the death of a couple in Weltevreden Park.

According to Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, they received a complaint of a shooting incident at a townhouse complex on Tuesday 3 February.

On arriving at the complex, the police met with the security who pointed out the residence where the shooting occurred.

“The bodies of a 31-year-old male and a 29-year-old female were found inside the residence, both with gunshot wounds and already declared dead by the paramedics,” explained WO Jacobs.

She mentioned that the couple was not married and the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently still under investigation. The child received trauma counselling on the scene and is currently with family members.

According to VitalMed Emergency Services spokesperson Tania du Toit, they attended to a shooting at a residential complex on the corner of JG Strydom and Springhaas roads in Weltevreden Park, where they found a couple in a pool of blood. “It was a very horrific scene,” said du Toit.

It is understood that residents in the area heard at least three gunshots from the residence during the night on 3 February.

The three-year-old who was with her parents at the time of the shooting, allegedly went out of her home and went to call for help from the guards at the security main entrance. It is alleged that the child told security that her father was hurting the mother. Residents went to inspect the scene and found two bodies, a man and a woman. It is reported that the deceased female had two gunshot wounds to the head while the deceased male had one. According to WO Jacobs, there was no previous record of domestic violence between the couple at their station.
