New resident’s association formed in Weltevreden Park
WELTEVREDEN PARK – New beginnings as Allen Glen Resident's Association tackles crime in their area.
History was made as a new residents’ association (RA) was formed in the area on 3 February.
Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin explained that there is a small part around Allen Glen High School that did not have an association and it was time to start an association for that part of the Ward.
A small meeting took place at around 7pm at Allen Glen High School and residents had the opportunity to choose a committee for the new RA, as well as a chairman.
Craig Rheeders was elected as the chairman and he immediately took charge by naming the association the Allen Glen Resident’s Association (AGRA).
“Residents in this area live in a grey area without any RA,” stated Rheeders. “Residents who live on Jim Fouché Road, Rondawel Avenue, Road 1, Landhuis and Bungalow streets, and Rinyani Avenue will now form part of AGRA.”
Sector 2 CPF chairman Neville Burnett mentioned that the RA falls within Sector 2. “They will still need to set up security vehicles to work with the RA because at this stage they only have two Sector 2 police vehicles that patrol the area 24 hours a day.
“The first platform that will make the area safer is a WhatsApp group, because if anything happens, the community can inform each other, so they need to set that up as soon as possible,” added Burnett.
“This is just the start and we have a long way ahead of us, but if we work together we can create an association that will make a difference to the lives of residents in the area,” concluded Rheeders.
