The West Rand Chamber of Business and Tourism (WRCBT) has drawn up a petition to clean up traffic lights and signs.
“Light poles and electric boxes on the pavements get totally misused by a group of people that advertise illegal abortions and penis enlargements,” said WRCBT’s director Dehlia van Staden.
Van Staden is referring to posters that can often be seen on light poles on every street in some areas that advertise several illicit services. The municipality spends money to clean up the mess but it has often been in vain.
“We feel very strongly about this – immediate action must be taken and the implantation of the by-laws regarding this [must]be implemented immediately.” She continued, “It is not only a transgression of your by-laws but also a criminal act to deface council property.”
