Top presenter killed in crash

Top Billing presenter, (Simbarashe) Simba Mhere, died on impact on Saturday morning following a car crash.

A press statement stated that the accident occurred along William Nicol Drive around 5am. Mhere was believed to be on his way to OR Tambo International Airport when a VW Polo crashed into his vehicle. Mhere and a passenger died on the scene.

Mhere’s father who is believed to be the third passenger in the car had to be air lifted to the hospital. The driver of the VW Polo whose car collided with that of Mhere’s vehicle has shown no signs of bleeding or damage to his car or body. He will be charged with culpable homicide and reckless or negligent driving.

Tributes have been pouring in for the Top Billing presenter from fans and friends that were close to him. The University of Johannesburg at which he obtained a B.Comm Accounting degree has sent their condolences to his family. It is with heartfelt regret that we learned about the passing of “Simba” Mhere,” said head of the UJ Alumni Network Nandi Madadasana in a recent statement.

Mhere rose to fame after beating Kalysha Naidoo in the Top Billing presenter search in 2010. Since then he has made waves in the entertainment industry and has won multiple awards based on his energetic presenting skills.

The Mhere family asks that they would be granted privacy as they deal with his sudden loss.
