Maropeng’s Hominid House evloved

More visitors can enjoy a comfortable stay at the Hominin House at Maropeng.

The Hominid House as it was known has evolved into the new Hominin House at Maropeng Visitor’s Centre.

In addition to the existing dormitory accommodation, which provides accommodation for 120 pupils, the sales and customer relations manager at Maropeng, Magel van de Venter says Hominin House not sports six en-suite rooms for teachers, an all-purpose hall and an amphitheatre fire pit.

She says Maropeng has also gone green where 70% of municipal water is recycled and used for the garden area. “There is a complete working wetlands systems. We have fully operational solar panels to heat the geysers as well,” she said and added although the kitchen is not equipped for Halaal or Kosher foods, it can be ordered for the visitor’s convenience and with prior arrangements.

“The aim of the improved look is to provide our visitors with a more comfortable stay at Hominin House. The hall and the enclosed dining area provides us with more space for additional educational and team building activities such as volley ball, table tennis, mini cricket and basketball hoops,” she said. De Venter said the fire pit will ensure the visitors have some down time and conversations and it will afford pupils the opportunity to experience the beautiful night skies at Maropeng.
