The back-to-school rush hit every parent and child this week after public schools re-opened on 14 January.
Although most parents buy the essentials beforehand – it goes without saying that certain expenses pop up when you least expect them.
There are just a few essentials that should always be checked off the list when your child goes to school.
- Stationery
Stationery shops can be found almost anywhere. You can even use the internet to browse through stationery online. Items such as book covers, glue sticks, pencils and crayons would cost you more or less R1 000. Primary school pupils usually have everything prescribed by a school.
- Uniforms
This one certainly goes without saying but there is always something more that needs to be done. It could be a new uniform for the proud Grade 1 or a larger size for a growing child.
Many primary schools require a summer and winter uniform, which could leave a dent in anyone’s pocket.
- School Fees
A big factor that usually draws most of the income. Salaries are usually paid out earlier in December and essential expenses can often build up very quickly, which explains why January can feel like such a long month. Most schools often offer a discount of sorts when fees are paid within a certain time-frame and you can take advantage of that.
- Transport.
Personally collecting and dropping off your kids is just not a viable option for most parents and that is why they ultimately organise other means of transport. Go for a transport system that has been around for a substantial time and that comes highly recommended. The transport has to be safe and trustworthy, it definitely helps if it drops off your child right at home.
