Potholes take over Jim Fouché Road
WELTEVREDEN PARK – Roads Agency promises to have potholes fixed before 18 January.
Potholes, potholes and potholes. “That’s what the roads consists of,” said Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin.
He complained about the state of roads in his ward because these roads aren’t properly maintained by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).
“Most of the potholes are quite big in size, especially the potholes in Jim Fouché Road. JRA only needs to fill up the holes as soon as they start appearing but they leave it until these holes become massive and then it takes more man hours and costs the City so much more to fix.”
Tonkin picked a pothole at the end of Jim Fouché close to the Hendrik Potgieter Road intersection and he put his entire shoe into the pothole and there was still space for another shoe.
“The danger is that at night or when the light is bad outside, then motorists won’t be able to see the pothole and it will damage their vehicles without a doubt.”
According to Tonkin, the query has been submitted to the entity about the various potholes in his ward, but no work has been done to any of them.
JRA spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers apologised for the inconvenience to motorists in the area.
“The team has scheduled pothole repairs in Jim Fouché Road this week and therefore the road should be pothole free by 18 January,” concluded Peters-Scheepers.
