How to register for a supplementary exam, re-marking and re-checking
METRO - Pupils have until 21 January to register for re-marking, re-checking and supplementary exams.
There is still hope for pupils who are not satisfied with their National Senior Certificate or matric results. Pupils have until 21 January to apply for re-marking, re-checking or supplementary exams. Here is a list of things to know.
- Supplementary examinations will be written from 16 February 2015 to 24 March 2015 and will be at no additional cost.
- Candidates will write supplementary examinations either at the school where the November examination was written, or at a centre designated for the supplementary examinations.
- Candidates will be informed on registration where they will be writing.
- Supplementary examination results will be released on 30 April 2015.
- Pupils who do not qualify for supplementary exams are advised to go back to school to re-do their matric.
- Application forms for re-checking and re-marking are available at the schools and centres where the candidates sat for their exams as well as at district offices.
- Pupils will be able to register to write the supplementary examinations by applying at their schools or centres where they sat, by 21 January – results will be released on 10 February.
- The fees are R80 for re-marking, R18 for re-checking and R160 for viewing a re-checked or re-marked examination script.
- Candidates from no-fee schools and pupils whose parents have applied and have been granted a concession on the payment of schools fees are exempted from payment of re-marking and re-checking fees.
- For those unable or unwilling to return to the same school, private colleges present another option.
- If you fail Grade 12, it is possible to move across to a college, where the qualification may be attained.
- If your matric certificate does not give you university entrance, it’s possible you qualify for an alternative course of study that, though slightly different, may still be in line with your career aspirations – an option that’s often disregarded or underestimated, is to enroll for shorter courses.
- If a pupil has passed Grade 10, they can start any programme at NQF 3 level to advance to NQF 4 and sometimes NQF 5 level programmes.
- A programme at NQF level 4 is at the same academic level as Grade 12. So while a qualification at NQF4 does not mean that you have matric, it is an equivalent to matric and will ultimately allow you to apply for those jobs where the minimum qualification is matric.
