Flying squad loses a dedicated member
HONEYDEW — A valued member of the West Rand Flying Squad lost his life in the line of duty.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a member of the West Rand Flying Squad was killed in the line of duty on 6 December.

Sergeant Curt Oosthuizen was reportedly searching a vehicle in Cosmo City on the night of 5 January when he was hit by another car. He was immediately airlifted to Milpark Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries in the morning after.
Karen du Plessis, public relations officer for the Flying Squad, said the driver of the vehicle was arrested on the scene on charges of reckless driving, but due to the death of Oosthuizen, that charge has turned into culpable homicide.
“We do not have dates to give out at the moment regarding the memorial service or the funeral. We are still processing the paper work and arrangements have been made thus far.”
Speaking of her late colleague, Du Plessis added, “He was very outspoken. You could barely get a word in when you were with him, he was incredibly talkative.”
