Nights in the dark a thing of the past this week
JOBURG — Power utility reported that power cuts will not be expected this week
Residents can breathe a sigh of relief after Eskom reported that there would not be any power cuts this week.
According to Khulu Phasiwe, from Eskom’s communications desk, the power grid remains tight across the country but is confident that households will not be burdened by dark nights.
“The chances are very slim for power cuts this week. We are still urging everybody to use electricity wisely. We used the weekend to ensure that we have enough resources and right now we are comfortable that everything will be alright,” said Phasiwe.
Over the past couple of weeks, South Africans have been burdened with continuous scheduled power cuts. Ward 89 Councillor, Ingrid Reinten added “We [councillors] get very little information on the load shedding schedule, no more than the public. I know which blocks are in my ward and only get information a few hours before the actual schedule.”
Last month, a coal storage silo at the Majuba power station in Mpumalanga collapsed, causing widespread power cuts.
