Aquathlon at Constantia Kloof
Constantia Kloof Primary School held their annual aquathlon.
This past Wednesday, Constantia Kloof Primary school held an aquathlon for all pupils from Grade 1 through to Grade 7.
The race is in its second year after an 11-year hiatus and around 470 pupils took part in the competition.
The race first started in the swimming pool, where the pupils had to run past the volleyball courts then finish with a lap around the field.
The grade 1s had an easier time of things, swimming 14m and running 350m.
As the grades progressed, the difficulty also increased.
The grade 2 and 3s had to swim 25m and run 600m. The grade 4 and 5s had to run 25m and 800m.
The grade 6 and 7s had it a little tougher, swimming the 25 m length pool three times (75m), then onto the volleyball court to put on their shorts, shirts and sneakers, then run a lap through the field and school hall twice (1 km) before completing the race.
All podium finishers received a cash prize.
Head of sports at the school, Tessa Schellard said the pupils had a fantastic time and loved the opportunity to take part in the race.
“We are trying to expose the learners to a different sport and they enjoyed it. Even those who are not strong in swimming or running took part in the race. We want to show our pupils what it’s like to compete in real aquathlons and their entrance fees, which was R10 became the prize money for podium finishers the same as in real races,” said Schellard.
