Councillors choose new leadership

ROODEPOORT – Ward councillors from different political parties wrapped up all the loose ends before the year end.

Local ward councillors gathered at the Roodepoort City Hall on 23 November to elect new leadership in Zone 5.

Hosted by members of the ANC in Zone 5, the structure’s performance during the year was highlighted, as well as the need to cut out non-performance and in-fighting.

As the term draws to an end, members who attended were in full anticipation for the announcement of the new leadership.

Newly elected chairperson Phosane Mngqidisa said, “The issue of service delivery remains persistent, as well as allegations of corruption. There have been service delivery protests in the zone, which we need to mitigate against. We have, however, made some achievements which include the housing project in Ward 127.” Mngqidisa said the housing project would resume in 2015.

Issues raised during the discussions were around a drive for political education and the plight to improve the performance of people in power while growing memberships.
