St Catherine’s introduces debutantes
Debutante of the Year and this year's award went to Micaela Rei.
St Catherine’s Convent recently hosted their first-ever Debutante Ball recently.
Two pupils at the convent, Aamirah Benefeldt and Gabriella Schnaier who dreamed of becoming debutantes, brought the idea forward at the beginning of the year and arranged for the ball to happen. One of the teachers assisted with the organising, along with other teachers who formed the debs teachers committee, organised the ball and did an absolute fantastic job.
According to the spokesperson for the convent, Aamirah Benefeldt each girl who wanted to become a debutante had to sign up. This entailed having to raise R3 000 each, which would contribute towards funding the ball.
The remainder of the money would be used to improve the school. Each girl raised this amount by means of fundraisers out of and in school. The debutante who raised the most money received the title of Debutante of the Year and this year’s award went to Micaela Rei who raised almost R12 000.
“The aim of the ball is welcoming elite girls into society. Tradition states girls should wear white and be accompanied by a partner and her parents. Majority of the girls showed up in white with their partners looking as dashing as ever,” Aamirah said and added that the girls looked absolutely beautiful.
The debutantes were Aamirah Benefeldt, Gabriella Schnaier, Claudia Camacho De Gouveia, Tamia Thompson, Kayla Jones, Kirstie Murray, Kayleigh Nefdt, Tegwn Megannon, Noluthando Ngubeni, Micaela Rei, Tayla Archer, Tamryn-Lee Kent, Sabrina Letnik and Simone van den Bos.
