Cansa celebrates its volunteers
ROODEPOORT – Cansa CEO urges people to give their time and sign up to become a volunteer.
The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) will celebrate and thank its volunteers on International Volunteer’s Day that will take place on 5 December.
Cansa Head of Marketing and Communication Lucy Balona said, “This day is dedicated to show gratitude to every volunteer who gives of their time and skills to people suffering with cancer.”
CEO of the association Elize Joubert added, “Irish writer Oscar Wilde once said ‘The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention’. That is exactly what our volunteers do on a daily basis, our volunteers are changing the lives of those affected by cancer.”
She explained that more than 6 000 volunteers help about 500 communities and reach about 14 000 cancer patients and their families. “Our care centres around the country will host volunteer gatherings on this day to acknowledge their contribution in helping to create a world where there is no cancer.”
Balona concluded and said, “We encourage everyone to join the fight against cancer and become a volunteer at Cansa. For more details, you can visit our website at www.cansa.org.za where one can sign up to become a volunteer.”
