Video: Alleged Princess land scam kingpin arrested
Watch how supporters protest outside court and get physical with councillor and journalist.

Two weeks after some residents of Princess informal settlement laid fraud charges pertaining to the illegal selling of municipal land, the alleged kingpin of the scam has been arrested.
A group of residents has been selling stands to people wanting to move into the settlement for amounts ranging from R1 200 to R2 500. It is said that almost 70 stands were sold along with the promise that the new residents would receive houses at the neighbouring housing development.
The arrest took place yesterday and the man, known to the record, appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court today.
Outside the court supporters, some dressed in ANC T-shirts, waited as an expression of solidarity with the arrested man.
Gert Niemand, DA councillor for the ward in which the settlement falls, was also at the court and expressed his satisfaction with the arrest.
When Roelien Vorster, record journalist on scene, tried to interview the protesters, they manhandled both her and Niemand and shouted obscenities at them.
It is not certain whether the suspect pleaded guilty or not.
