Criminals on the prowl in Florida

Criminal activity increasing as Christmas draws closer, said block watch spokesperson.

Criminal activity in Florida is increasing as Christmas draws closer, according to the Florida Block Watch.

On Sunday night 9 November a woman was forced into her home on Hinsbeeck Street by three males after entering her driveway. The suspects drove an old white Audi.

“She was tied up and the house was ransacked,” said Our Neighbourhood Florida spokesperson Caleb Finn, adding, “They also stole her vehicle and left with numerous items.”

Finn said luckily the vehicle has been recovered by the Florida Police, who are investigating the matter.

On Wednesday afternoon 12 November burglars bent open the burglar bars of a house in Janet Street.

“They gained access to the house and stole numerous items,” Finn said.

At around 3pm on Wednesday, a woman was robbed while she was walking along Barry Hertzog Drive near Jasmine Street. She was accosted by two males in a VW Golf.

“At least one of the suspects subsequently was arrested by Florida Police after a chase ensued,” Finn said.

Finn applauded security companies for responding to the scenes on Wednesday afternoon and cautioned residents to be alert.

“We wish to advise residents that crime is on the rise as we approach the festive season,” Finn said.

“Many criminals are on the prowl this time of year, so we caution residents to remain alert and report all suspicious activity to the Florida Police and local security companies,” Finn said.
