Wear or grow a mo this Movember
RUIMSIG – Prostate and testicular cancers is two of the main cancers that affect men and it's part of Cansa's Men's Awareness Campaign for Movember.
November, a month dedicated to the growing of mustaches and coined as Movember, is a very important month to create awareness of various types of male cancers, said Mr South Africa finalist Armand du Plessis.
“The Movember Foundation is the leading global organisation committed to changing the face of men’s health,” continues Du Plessis. “The Movember community has raised more than R 4.7 billion to date and has funded over 800 programmes in 21 countries. This work is saving and improving the lives of men affected by prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.”
According to the head of marketing and communication at Cansa, November is our ” men’s Health Awareness Campaign month and prostate cancer is a serious risk for males as one in 26 is likely to have prostate cancer and one in 1 959 men has the chance of having testicular cancer.” She added that this type of cancer is common in men between the age of 15 and 39 years of age.
Du Plessis explained that if you can’t grow a mo you can also show that you are part of the cause by wearing a clip-on mo. “Lynné de Jager from
Stiki Studio sponsored two mos, a larger one for my ‘Man of Honour’ campaign and a smaller one that I can wear on my shirts every day. Whether you wear a clip-on or grow your own moustache, show your support to a worthy campaign,” the Mr SA finalist concluded, “because by standing united we can make a difference in men’s health.”
