Update: Putt-Putt has our blessing – JPC
Deal is a 'slight relief' for custodians of council property.
According to the Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) all is above board with the putt-putt development of which it is rumoured that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is a funder.
Sakkie Venter of JPC explains that although JPC is the custodian of council property, they have been approached by the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) to use the land in question on condition that they take responsibility for its upkeep. Venter says they agreed to this since it would ease the financial burden on JPC. He also says JPC encourages projects such as these since it benefits the City.
Venter explains that a one-year contract or memorandum of agreement was reached between the developers and the DSR. He says the developers are allowed to build on the land since it would become an asset of the City once the project is completed or abandoned.
It remains unclear whether the required building plans have been approved and the engineer’s certificate for the building issued.
The record is awaiting comment from the DSR. Project manager Rupert September, ANC spokesperson for Zone 6 also has agreed to an interview.
