Update: Putt-Putt has our blessing – JPC

Deal is a 'slight relief' for custodians of council property.

According to the Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) all is above board with the putt-putt development of which it is rumoured that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is a funder.

Sakkie Venter of JPC explains that although JPC is the custodians of council property, they have been approached in this case by the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) to use the land in question on the condition that they then take responsibility for the upkeep. Venter says they agreed to this since it would relief the financial pressure on JPC. He also says that JPC encourages projects like this since it assists the city.

Venter further explained that a one year contract or memorandum of agreement were reached between the developers and the DSR. He says that the developers are allowed to build since it would become an asset of the city once the project is completed or abandoned.

It is still unclear whether the correct building plans and engineer’s certificate for the building is in place.

The record is awaiting comment from the DSR and project manager Rupert September, ANC spokesperson for Zone 6, has agreed to an interview.
