Pupils from Maragon Private Schools Primary walked away with six awards at the CAMI 2014 Turning the Tables competition, placing their school third overall.

The competition took place at Marist Brothers Linmeyer (Marian College).

“The objective of the competition is to encourage pupils to improve their mathematics skills. Since January we have

conducted preliminary intra-school competitions at 24 private and public primary schools around Gauteng to encourage pupils to practise their skills in preparation for the interschool competition,” says Sharon Cross, CEO of The Foundation for Excellent Learning, the official distributor for CAMI.

Each of the participating schools entered a pupil from each grade. Prizes were awarded for each grade based on the individual’s Performance Index (PI).

The PI is a combination of speed and accuracy, the score being the number of correct sums completed per minute.

Individual winners scored points for their school and the school with the most points overall won the CAMI Turning the Tables floating trophy.

Top Maragon pupil was Tamuka Chakaipa who won the silver medal in the Grade 6 category with a PI score of 63,3.
