Settle down for Florida Movies in the Park

Good, clean, family fun promised at the event by the On Florida Community Forum.

Take a break from studying for the exams and enjoy an evening with family and friends at the On Florida Community Forum’s Movies in the Park event.

On Friday 7 November movies will be screened on the Hoërskool Florida sports field. This joint venture between the forum and the Florida Swimming Club is a fundraising initiative to cater for the club’s Learn To Swim Programme for underprivileged residents, say forum committee members Elaine Whittal and Caleb Finn in a press statement.

“There will be a number of stalls organised by the Florida Community Market offering a wide variety of foods, organic products and interesting gift items.

“Local charity depot Multi-Charity will be on hand to sell items to support a number of worthy community organisations,” Finn says.

Finn and Whittal say the films to be screened are family friendly, including Mr Peabody and Sherman and Mr Popper’s Penguins. Entrance fees are R30 per adult and R20 per child under 13. Security measures are in place – Dunmar Security is sponsoring security personnel and Quick Response Service will provide medical support. Members of Florida Block Watch and M&D Community Policing will assist security guards in patrolling the area.

“Seeing that Movies in the Park is meant to be a clean, safe and enjoyable family event, unruly or distracting behaviour will not be tolerated,” says Finn.

The gates will open at 5pm and movies will be screened from 7.30pm.
