NSQC crosses all Ts and dots the Is ahead of finals

RUIMSIG — Stakeholders meet to tie up loose ends ahead of National School Quiz Championship finlas

The brains behind the National School Quiz Championships (NSQC) held a meeting with its stakeholders at Monash University on 29 October ahead of the tournament final in December.

With the University’s representatives present and Mindset TV, NSQC’s founder and director, Ian Venganai presented the progress made thus far with regard to bringing in more than 30 schools from across the country for the three-day live taping of the quiz finals.

Issues around logistics and space proved to be most of the prominent topics raised, including accommodating the hundreds of participants making their way to Monash from 6 to 8 December.

“The idea around this meeting is to help us understand the production side ahead of the finals in December. The 32 schools in the tournament will be grouped and spread out between the taping of episodes. So, group A for instance, will tape Episode one. We have set up a commentary booth just to bring a lighter mood during the proceedings. Whoever is in the booth, can discuss the questions as they are being asked, possible answers and the chances that particular school has,” said Venganai.

During the presentation, a detailed layout plan was discussed of where every person would be placed and the space available on campus. From lighting, camera work and the stage, everything has been accounted for and ticked off the list to endure that the tapings run smoothly.

Monash University will provide accommodation to all the participants and one day of the finals will be dedicated to the university. On the day, the pupils will have orientation, focusing on the university and be treated to a tour of the campus facilities.

NSQC’s production manager, Thina Tladi said “This is the first year for NSQC and we have accounted for 40 crew members, including producers, presenters and down to the drivers. We only had the preliminary finals in Gauteng but we plan to have [them] all over South Africa next year. It will be a three-day event with one day dedicated completely to Monash and the activities they have planned for the participants.”
