WELTEVREDEN PARK – An unused piece of land owned by the City Council could be put to better use, said Ward 89 councillor Ingrid Reinten.

“When the City designed the suburb of Weltevreden Park, they intended for Cornich Avenue to be connected to Cornelius Street, but this never happened and this left an open piece of land between two complexes in the area,” Reinten said.

She added that the road reserve is between El Shaddai and Tria Nisia complexes, separated by electric fencing erected by El Shaddai with a gate inbetween.“The grass is very tall and a tree has fallen over.. the land is unused so the idea came up to convert the land into a park.”

Reinten added that the park will benefit the community as they can use it on weekends or walk their dogs in the park area. “It is a road reserve area but until the City decides to make it a road I want us to use it for something worthwhile. The only thing that stands between us turning the vacant land into a park, is the fact that council has to give us a letter to OK the idea. I am going to continue putting pressure on council until they decide to allow us to create the park,” she concluded.
