Johannesburg Water promises to restore pavements
WELTEVREDEN PARK – Johannesburg Water promises to pay contractor after residents are satisfied with pavements.
Earlier this year Johannesburg Water started work on its articulation system upgrade in the area. According to Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin, the water pipes in the area were extremely old and pipe bursts were a weekly occurrence.
“The workers, unfortunately, had to dig up most driveways in the area to access the pipes and this is where the problems started. The workers had to take photos of the driveways and they had to restore them to their previous states after they replaced the pipes.”
Community liaison officer Jan von der Heyde explained that this was a challenge as each driveway is unique. “We had to use different stones and sort specific bricks to restore each driveway.”
Committee member from the Riverwel Resident’s Association Neville Burnett said the community arranged for a meeting. “The meeting took place on 17 October with the contractors where the residents raised their complaints about things that still needed to be done before the project ends. One of the main complaints was the pavements that needed to be reinstated properly.”
Burnett concluded and said, “Johannesburg Water assured us that the contractor will be obtaining a signed affidavit from the residents, stating that the work has been completed to their satisfaction before the contractors are paid in full and leave the site. If residents want more details they can contact Jan von der Heyde.
