Pikitup delivers on service

HONEYDEW— Pikitup has restored faith in one resident after their speedy reaction to a recurring rubbish problem in Honeydew.

So often we hear about the failures of service delivery in our communities, it is quite refreshing when the people who have been put there to help improve our lives, do just that.

Shirley Young from Honeydew was pleasantly surprised with the speed at which she has received service delivery in her area.

On 10 October, she contacted her Ward councillor Jaco Engelbrecht regarding the rubbish build-up on her street. Young said “Within a few days, I received a call from Pikitup, asking to meet with me. I was with Mr Majoro from Pikitup and I showed him where the problem was.”

To Young’s surprise, workers from Pikitup arrived the next day to clean up the mess. “I was expecting them to come back here in a couple of weeks and even thought my efforts were in vain, but they arrived the next morning!” she added.

Pikitup spokesperson Pansy Oyedel said, “It is important that we build a proper relationship with community members to keep our streets clean and eradicate waste in a manageable manner.”
