Overgrown pavements irritates councillor

WELTEVREDEN PARK – JRA explains that they will take a look at the complaints about pavements in the area.

The state of pavements in Ward 126 is a big concern to residents and the councillor of the area, Mike Tonkin.

A worried Tonkin said. “The problem is pavements and the storm water drains that run next to road are unmaintained. Pavements are overgrown and the grass is taller than I am at some places. Not only does it look bad but it makes it difficult and dangerous for motorists as they can’t see other vehicles on the other side of the road and that might cause some accidents in the future.”

He explained that the problem is also that the rainy season is approaching and with the storm water drains that are all over grown by weeds the water won’t be able to run down them away from the road.

“The Johannesburg Roads Agency workers need to spray pesticides on these weeds as spading them won’t help because they grow back a couple of weeks later.”

Tonkin explained that he logged the issues of the overgrown pavements and storm water drains that are prominent on J.G. Strydom Road to JRA.

JRA Spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers confirmed that they received the issues about the overgrown pavements in the middle of the road and explained that they will send out a team to assess the situation.
