Ms Kitty, the feral cat that is said to have been living at Palm Court Shopping Centre for over 10 years, has finally found a new home.
One of the concerned Weltevreden Park residents Lara Kilian, who was one of the people who worked tirelessly to find and secure a new home for the cat, said it was not an easy task.
“Because she is not a domesticated animal, it was extremely hard to find a suitable home for her,” explained Kilian.
She said one of the biggest challenges they faced, was to catch the cat and said the situation was also stressful for the cat. It took the people who know how to handle feral cats two days to catch Ms Kitty.
“She ran away a few times and hid in the storm water drain.” Kilian said the cat was settling in with her new carer as if she had known her for many years. “I cannot disclose the location or give out names and numbers of Ms Kitty’s new carer for safety reasons.”
As the cat was mostly provided with food by the community while it stayed at Palm Court Shopping Centre, Kilian has asked those who would still like to contribute food for the cat to contact her. “As animal lovers you are aware that supporting any animal is expensive and it would also help her new carer as well if we can continue with the support.”
She said she will arrange for a drop-off point where food for the cat can be collected once a week and be sent to Ms Kitty’s new home.
Kilian also thanked the people who helped catch Ms Kitty, the new carer and community members who contributed food for the cat over the past few years. “Your love and compassion for any animal will be something that you will always be blessed for.”
