NDPP gives go ahead for kwaito star rape case

ROODEPOORT— The National Director of Public Prosecutions will allow the rape case against kwaito star Sipho 'Brickz' to proceed

After numerous postponements, the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) ruled that the rape case against kwaito star Sipho ‘Brickz’ Ndlovu will proceed.

Ndlovu’s lawyer, Dumisane Mabunda made an application to the NDPP in August to have the case withdrawn and the case was given the green light on 20 October at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court.

During proceedings, Mabunda said he pleaded with the court to withdraw the case because his client continued to pay costly legal fees with no income from his music career.

“My client has to pay us every time we come to court, only for the matter to be postponed. All the while, he is not getting an income because no one wants to be associated with him, he is not being booked for performances.”

The case has been postponed to 6 November to allow the defense an opportunity to gather all the documents required.

Brickz is accused of raping a 17-year-old girl at his home in Honeydew in March 2013, although the matter was only reported in October. He was released on R50 000 bail in December when his lawyer at the time took the matter to the High Court, after unsuccessful attempts at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court.
