This is a letter to the person who uses the Wilro Park Library and has read novels by authors such as Jodi Picault. This unknown reader obviously is disturbed when the words “God” and “Jesus Christ” appear in the text. With a black ballpoint pen, this rather disturbed reader takes the liberty of defacing the books in question and scribbles over the words he or she finds offensive! Needless to say these books are damaged and other readers are probably also finding it very frustrating trying to work out what has been scratched out over and over again throughout a book.

My advice to this person is: please go and buy your own books, and if you find books that are upsetting to you for religious reasons, then stop reading them! To have the audacity to deface library books amounts to vandalism.

The librarians working at the library are aware that many of their books have been damaged in this way, but have no way of tracking down the culprit.
