Children’s home deals with messy neighbours

WELTEVREDEN PARK – A local children's home has been dealing with the smelly dumping from one of their neighbours, for more than four weeks.

A children’s home on the corner of Witdoring and Rooihout avenues in Weltevreden Park has been burdened with the smelly mess of a resident who dumps rubbish on the side of the pavement next to their property.

The rubbish is placed all around the dustbin and is often left there for up to four weeks at a go with no attention.

Ikholwa Children’s Home admin manager Ulrike Mann says the other residents on the street often complain to them, assuming the rubbish is from the home.

“We are now at our wits’ end, we have taken the matter up with Continental Outdoor but, to this day, no action has been taken. There is only so much we can actually do to try and alleviate the problem.”

Besides the health hazard involved in having rubbish sit out in the open for more than a month, Mann says the home is receiving a bad reputation because the neighbours believe it is their rubbish.

Mann adds that they have placed notices on the bins to request the culprit to stop dumping on the pavement, but those have been removed.

“According to our gardener, it is the [resident in the] house opposite [our property] who dumps the rubbish there. I have noticed that on Mondays when the refuse removal comes, they are the only house without black dustbins outside. The refuse removals do not remove this rubbish,” says a frustrated Mann.

Refuse collector Pikitup spokesperson Jacky Mashapu said they would look into the matter.
