First-time competitors walk away with trophy
WELTEVREDEN PARK - Panorama Primary School successfully hosted its annual double wicket competition.
With the favourable sunny weather on their side, Panorama Primary School successfully hosted their annual double wicket competition.
Steve Bezuidenhout, cricket coach at the school, said this is one of the highlights on the school’s sporting calendar. “The competition is in its third year running and it’s always amazing to see the new talent from different schools.”
Five schools took part in the competition and 10 games were played. Panorama Primary School was not only the host but also the current title holder.
Bezuidenhout mentioned that the schools that took part in the competition were top-performing schools in the cricket field. “Participation was by invitation only and that was based on the performance of each school.”
The schools that competed are Laerskool Roodekraans, Weltevreden Park Primary, Charterhouse, Constantia Kloof Primary and the host, Panorama Primary.
Though the teams were competing to hold the title, Bezuidenhout said it encouraged the pupils to maintain good sportsmanship and also showcase their talent among their peers.
The disappointing aspect that Bezuidenhout noted was what looked like lack of support from the parents as there was only a few parents who came to watch the games. “Parents should strive to make time to attend such events and show interest in the extra-mural activities their children take part in at school.”
Laerskool Roodekraans, who was participating for the first time in the competition, went away as the current title holders of the competition. They went home with the floating trophy and most of their players went away with most of the individual prizes that were given to players based on their performance.
