Maragon teachers get the ice treatment.
Teachers at Maragon take part in the Ice Bucket challenge for local charities.
Dunking your school teacher with a bucket full of cold water and ice cubes is a dream for many pupils, and for the ones at Maragon Private Schools in Ruimsig that became a reality when one class dunked their teachers on 23 September.
The school followed suit from the ongoing global awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) disease by encouraging pupils to raise money for a local charity. Every R100 collected placed a teacher up for the unforgiving ice bucket and the class that collected the most money, did the honours.
Gayle Lee, an educator at Maragon said, “The class collected R1 800 in two days to pour us with water and, ultimately, the school collected R7 600 which will be divided equally among two local charities.”
The prize of dunking teachers was a sure treat for the pupils watching and dunking and the money was collected in just 48 hours, which goes to show that it really does not take a lot of effort to do something good for the community.
The proceeds from the challenge will go to Mug and Tree Nursery and Joy in a Box to assist the organisations with their needs and supplies.
In the spirit of Pay it Forward, the school has nominated all the other Maragon schools, including Olympus, Avianto and Raslouw.
