Local beauty wants to take on the Commonwealth

Nolwandle Ngwenya hopes to conquer SA before reigning supreme at the Commonwealth pageant.

The charming Nolwandle Ngwenya (17) is a finalist in the Miss Teen Commonwealth SA pageant.

The West Ridge High School pupil is one of 24 finalists to compete in a grand finale at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City on 29 August.

Nolwandle, who describes herself as an extrovert, has lived in Roodepoort all her life. She enjoys drawing, poetry and soccer. Her favourite soccer team is Kaizer Chiefs and her favourite player is Katlego Mphele.

Nolwandle intends to further her education at either the University of Johannesburg or Wits to become a businesswoman or economist.

A part-time model, she already has been in adverts for the Toyota Yaris and 2 Minute Noodles.

Although this is the first pageant she has entered she believes she is prepared. Brimming with confidence she says she is ready to reign because, “I can be a good role model. I am hard-working and I always persevere. Failure is not in my dictionary.”

She is thankful for her sponsors, Urban Health Concepts at the Village @ Horizon, and YDIDI who provide scholastic bursaries and empower the youth.

The winner of the South African pageant will travel to London to compete against the winners from the other 52 Commonwealth nations. They also will be involved in various charitable endeavors.
