Wilgeheuwel teen spreads her wings to the international stage
WILGEHEUWEL— Lauren Blight is reaching for the stars after impressing industry heavyweights in a talent competition in Florida, USA
Lauren Blight (14) from Wilgeheuwel is flying the flag high for her community and the country after her recent trip to Orlando, USA where she competed in the Actors, Models and Talent for Christ (AMTC) Shine Convention in July.
Lauren showcased her impressive skills in a series of segments including solo vocals, an a capella sing off, on-camera acting and photography, and received a number of call backs from potential talent and casting agents.
“The experience was very beneficial to Lauren because of the international exposure and it was a real eye-opener because the competitions back home are not as big. America is literally bigger and better,” says Lauren’s mother Corina Blight.
The AMTC Convention is a biannual event that provides people – both young and old –with the platform to pursue international careers in singing, dancing and acting.
Lauren performed in front of industry giants including VH1, Disney Channel, Sony BMG and Elite Models, who provided mentorship and training during seminars, workshops and panel discussions.
“It was very overwhelming when I arrived there the first time but the people were amazing. I am looking forward to the upcoming competition and my passion for music drives me to consistently improve myself,” says a beaming Lauren, who adds she equally loves both acting and singing
The talented teen is spreading her vocal and acting wings as a contestant in the upcoming National South African talent Championships scheduled to take place in October this year.
Her vocal coach Christian Heath says Blight is a diligent student who expresses a lot of emotion in her voice.
“She can easily go from an upbeat song to something more mellow and slow. I have been working with her for three years now and she continues to show the uniqueness in her voice.”
