Maragon Private Schools hosted the KFC mini cricket tournament on 23 August – where more than a dozen schools took part in little league matches.
The schools brought their U8 and U7 teams to go against different teams from the area, including Laerskool Krugersdorp-Noord, Weltevreden Park, Panorama and Constantia Kloof primary schools.
The tournament was a fun way for all the teams to socialise and get to know each other outside the classroom, enjoying a day of fun in the sun and sports.
All the participants were awarded with certificates at the end of the day and received goodie bags as part of their reward.
Buhle Vaphi from the Gauteng Cricket Board said “we are really impressed with the way the day turned out and the wonderful way the schools are able to interact with each other on a social level and through tournaments like these, we can develop crucial skills and make friends along the way,” Vaphi said.
More than 300 players decked out on the field – with hopes of making the cricket tournament a regular event with more participants.
According to Marelise Lombard from Maragon Pre-primary School, the day proved successful for the children who practised their various batting and bowling techniques to the cheers of parents and educators.
“It has been a lot of fun for the children here and just for the day, they got to forget the rigors of the classroom but just have fun socialising with other children and enjoying a day of cricket.”
