Local rapper taking hip hop world by storm

ROODEPOORT— Local rapper Nkosinathi Khoza is setting himself up as one of the youngest upcoming MCs to come out of the west.

Rapper and resident Nkosinathi Pat Khoza, otherwise simply known by his stage name Npk Twice, is making big waves in the hip hop industry after his successful headline at this year’s Pop Bottles Festival.

Born in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, Khoza was introduced to the hip hop culture at 12 years old, when his step-father gave him American rapper Nas’ debut album Illmatic.

The gift hooked Npk Twice, who began writing poetry and frequently presented his slam poetry during school assemblies, which ultimately landed him a spot in the oral team D2 Orals in Pretoria during 2007.

The road to success is paved with roadblocks and Khoza has definitely been through his share of stumbling blocks. In 2008, Npk Twice was robbed at gunpoint, losing more than 53 tracks that he had typed on the stolen phone’s notepad.

Although diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after the incident, the rapper continued to enjoy success from his single Gold Diggers which was released earlier in 2008, prompting him to join the local West Rand label Stanshir Music – owned by Naughty Shawn.

Npk Twice joined hip hop heavyweights Khuli Chana, Da L.E.S and AKA on stage at Pop Bottles hosted at Sway in Sandton.

As if that is not impressive enough, he has a track playing on four radio stations and is scheduled to perform at the South African Hip Hop Awards later this year.
