Surprise victory for Jayde Julius

RUIMSIG - The Powerade Bestmed Lost City Cycling festival saw Jayde Julias laying the foundation for his victory in the 115km event.

RUIMSIG – Bonitas rider Jayde Julius was the man to beat at the Powerade Bestmed Lost City Cycling Festival in the North West Province on 16 August.

The Ruimsig resident claimed victory when he maintained his momentum with only 3km left, laying the foundation for his victory in the 115km event in just 02: 37:38.

“It was great to win, I felt super strong,” said the 20-year-old, “However, the competition was very intense.”

Julius narrowly outsprinted Tyler Day who came second and teammate Herman Fouché, who came third, respectively.

Although he knew that he was strong and fast, he did not expect to win the race. “I was shocked that I managed to finish the race, I was not expecting it, because my team mate Herman needed to win,” informed Julius.

Julius shared his secret to finishing the race successfully.

“I think I managed to win because generally I am fast and as a professional climber or cyclist I am a hard worker. The competition happened when I was still fresh and fit from the Lowveld Tour,” said Julius.

Julius thanked his teammates for helping him win the race.

“Without my team, I don’t think I could have finished the race successfully, we worked well together.”

The win kicks off the second half of what has been a successful first season with Bonitas.
