Trolley race spectacular

CLEARWATER - Roodepoort Round Table 162 in conjunction with Clearwater Mall and Hyprop hosted a spectacular trolley race in support of charity.

Roodepoort Round Table 162 in conjunction with Clearwater Mall and Hyprop hosted their annual Trolley Race on 17 August.

The race, which is in its fifth year, saw enthusiastic individuals brave the cold weather for the fun trolley race – some racers were there to defend their titles and to have fun – all in the name of raising funds for charity. The supported charities include The Gateway Village and Matla a bana.

“The atmosphere was great,” said trolley convenor Charl du Plessis. “From the roaring sounds of the SAB, Honeydew Police’s siren that was attached to the trolley to the chanting, the crowds and the teams.”

Each trolley was raced by four people through the parking areas of 2km. Three people were the runners pushing the trolley and the fourth person was the pilot and remained seated in the trolley during the race.

“When the trolleys became quiet and the dust settled, new champions were crowned and R34 000 was raised for the two charities,” he said.

Du Plessis also mentioned that they heard a few hoots and hollers from teams as they exited the parking lot, content with either winning, or at least, participating.

“A lot of work will be put into the race next year as we will be working with Clearwater Mall from a much earlier stage than this year,” he concluded.
