Do you find Pallo Jordan’s resignation honourable?

JOBURG – Jordan quits his position as Member of Parliament amidst reports that he lied about his qualification.

Mixed reactions from residents following Pallo Jordan’s resignation. Jordan resigned from his position as Member of Parliament after it emerged that he didn’t have a formal qualification, though he had been using the ‘Dr’ title.

Some residents applauded him for stepping down while others criticised him for lying about his qualification. Resident Evelyn Gyampo says what Jordan did was honourable because most African leaders never step down from positions, irrespective of what wrongs they are found doing. She adds that it’s disappointing to have an MP of Jordan’s calibre lie about qualifications he holds. “I really wonder what was going on in his mind, what made him feel compelled to lie?”

Another resident, Vee Govender, questions the vetting system of the government. “Did they just take his word that he holds a PhD and never asked for his certificates?”

Daphney Hawkins with Francesca Letcher. Hawkin say she doesn't understand why Jordan felt the need to lie about his qualifications and adds that the truth always comes out and Pallo should have known. On the same note, she is disturbed by the fact that he lied about it for so long. She finds nothing honourable about the resignation because if it was not reported in the news, Jordan would still be going with the 'Dr' title that he did not study for.
