At the latest CPF meeting, the Honeydew Police Station commander set new targets to increase response times and to decrease the number of perpetrators who drive under the influence.
Station commander Brigadier Wayne Sirkot explained the new targets include arrests for drug-related offences that will have to increase by 15 per cent and he added that the station aims to arrest an additional 6 per cent of motorists who drive under the influence. “One of our biggest targets is a lower response time which is now set at 10 minutes.”
He added and said although the new targets have been set, there are still problems in the Sector as robbery remains a concern for residents.
CPF Sector 3 chairperson Daniel Smith said culpable homicide, aggravating robbery and residential burglary are all still extremely high. “Other types of crime that were still high during July are: vehicle hi-jacking, business and common robberies.”
He was excited to announce that the South African Police Service will host its community meeting at the Struben’s Valley Library at 6.30pm on 8 October. “Depending on his availability, Cluster commander Major-General Oswald Reddy will attend the meeting.”
New requirements for reservists were also explained at the meeting. “They must be at least 35 years old and they must have a Grade 12 qualification and be a South African citizen by birth,” Smith added.
The next CPF Sector 3 meeting will take place on 10 September at the Struben’s Valley Library at 6.30pm.
