Support Casual Day and make a difference

RUIMSIG - Gateway Society urges people to support Casual Day this year.

Casual Day can be seen as a day to let loose and do some team building, but the actual purpose of the day is to raise funds for people living with disabilities.

One of the organisations that needs the funds is the Gateway Society that looks after people with disabilities.

According to Gateway Society spokesperson Chanelle Bekker, the project encourages people to dress differently to the usual corporate dress code, whether dressed up or dressed down.

The ‘licence’ to be dressed outrageously is the Casual Day Sticker, which is obtained for a donation of R10.

Last year, Gateway Society received recognition for raising R256 962 for Casual Day.

She explained that the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in SA runs the project this year, and the organisation participates in this project to raise funds for the services rendered toward persons with disabilities.

She said, “Every R10 raised for a sticker is important as this is how we raise funds that provide material relief and promote rights to accessibility, education, housing, employment and full integration into society.”

She added that the only way people can help is by persuading their colleagues to purchase the Casual Day stickers and to wear something unique on 5 September.
