Golf spectacular at Kyalami Country Club

FONTAINEBLEAU - Teachers had a spectacular Gauteng Inter-School Masters golf tournament on 30 July.

The inaugural Gauteng Inter-School Masters Golf Tournament started off on a good note at Kyalami Country Club on 30 July.

Fountainebleau Laerskool teachers were among those who participated in the competition. As a brainchild of Ryan Rabie– a parent at Unika Laerskool – the tournament was said to foster and promote cooperation between primary schools in Gauteng Province by involving teachers and parents from various schools.

Rabie informed that it is important for teachers and parents to cooperate. “The responsibility for the development of schools to create an optimal learning environment for pupils rests not only with the education authorities, but also through the cooperation of teachers and parents,” he said.

The highly anticipated tournament employed the rules of the Ryder Cup competition – this meant that teachers and parents had to bring their A-game on the prestigious tournament.

Four teachers and 12 parents from six schools competed for the first prize, which was won by Horison Laerskool from Roodepoort by two points, with Fontainebleau Laerskool the runners-up and Unika Laerskool in third place. The success of the day was underpinned by 10 points separating the first six places.

The highlight of the event was when every school principal took charge as captains for the individual teams, and they were on hand to provide ‘guidance and advice’.

Rabie advised that Gauteng schools should also get involved in next year’s golf tournament.
